; t+ r5 O# }( G; C/ Y* H- q" p  U  Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;
$ h) N/ T- Q" D: }2 C  c4 X3 l. ]  The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
3 p2 u! |' p% ], E' x, V7 E7 _6 V  In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there;& l: F! [+ |+ _$ c( V5 P6 O
  在圣诞节前夜,
. @8 `' _% U. m  k4 s) G' B; ]  整间屋里没有一人在吵,! B7 i. o% V% F, P0 b( K
  就连老鼠也不闹;' t* S: D5 ^5 G& S6 P( v) T
  长袜已被小心地挂到烟囱上,
& _; R! ?/ f% J  ~& s  我希望圣尼古拉很快就来到;8 X# i& b+ ?% l/ X% m; c* b+ m; ]
  The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
, \1 V1 l1 E+ f* \# m  While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads;
5 q8 F& @3 A! n/ l& O* T. Q, w& J  And mamma in her 'kerchief, and I in my cap,
' e2 B8 D. t" G8 x; v* }  Had just settled our brains for a long winter's nap,4 o' a$ v1 @8 ^, t6 Z
  我希望圣尼古拉很快就来到;
% U# K3 L$ E: z, d7 \  孩子们都被舒适地安顿到他们的床上,
1 C8 Q; Z- v3 \6 W9 B" m  虽然他们脑子里还跳动着小糖球的幻影;
+ H* m: {4 [& V& g  妈妈裹起头巾,我戴上帽,

+ u9 H, a% J1 Y  ]6 a( o  Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.
& @) }. Q" l( [# g: q4 V  这时外面的草地上有了得得的声响,' X% B+ D7 `! L; H3 D. X  K
  我从床上跳起来去看个究竟,
& v+ ?; p$ b4 W' r  像一道闪光,我扑向窗户,快得像一道闪光, b* Q* F; Q) {
  扯开百页窗拉起窗框。
+ K# r$ w6 V3 U) R  The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
) O( h! x' c: w: p  Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below,) I4 l& U: E( r
  When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
+ N% _& g1 D5 q+ O  But a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer,
8 v: n- }7 Z0 X  只见月光洒在新雪的胸膛上,
) o6 }  _4 V* ?- A! I% g  给月下的万物披上晌午的光芒;( y' x/ O7 v/ m: J; E7 w
  这时竟出现了使我目瞪口呆的景象,
" \% o" i5 N1 ~+ Y6 ^  那是一辆小雪橇和八只小小的驯鹿,
2 s+ Y; M/ i' |  f0 E/ D: S  With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
) X4 T* B  q/ z6 i  I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.
" G% a! Y5 w: L" A* C( z  More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
9 R7 l4 \5 i% k8 ~$ y- v  And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;4 h2 a/ q( L7 s7 w7 \# T. t2 d8 q: @
  上面坐着一个小小的老车夫,( i5 G2 b+ `( E( @
  他是这样生气勃勃,动作敏捷,' K- Y4 f# S8 a
  我马上知道这一定是圣尼古拉。
  M6 {2 d% \( ~2 A$ R8 B  他的骏鹿跑得比鹰还快,
. P  E% A0 L6 G' [3 g$ s* @  他吹哨,吆喝,还能叫它们的名字:7 x% a' C1 [9 G: n# p
  "Now, Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen!7 f3 _2 d- ~' b) w! Z+ }; {, N
  On, Comet! on, Cupid! on, Donder and Blitzen!
  N+ _: u  s/ ?. v( b2 c1 {  To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
5 M3 m% W( t4 p, O" ]! A& c  Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!"
! B3 m) N# B4 w  Q! l( e  “嘿,达舍!嘿,丹瑟!* I: G2 ?- M1 e& ~) C& z
  嘿,普兰舍和维克星!  z" C$ d( e9 u6 X0 v9 v
  前进,科米特!前进,朱庇特!1 g- k- b* p. _0 G. {
  前进,唐德和布利琛!+ e9 T4 \+ n* E3 ~' m+ v
  嘿,冲呀,冲呀,一起给我冲,7 p# @8 |; [0 Y9 v
  冲到门廊顶,冲向围墙的顶!”
; F0 r& b: G1 M" j  As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
. J. y) n: s* ^( z  ?7 M3 g( U/ {  When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky;
7 H$ N- f+ k, v# \5 ?3 m  So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,
1 ^% P1 t: H7 J- u7 E) t! [) I  With the sleigh full of Toys, and St. Nicholas too.
+ Z: z' o9 y! I8 M3 r. D$ I  它们决得就像枯叶随着疯狂的飓风,$ @: p7 ?; P9 |$ q; s
  遇到障碍就升向天空,
( J, B6 ~( p# a6 Z% W/ ^  拉着装满玩具的雪橇,还有圣尼古拉,; M. [" S# z8 X
  驯鹿飞到了屋顶,
2 s; z2 }! d' Y0 Y; ?$ |* [+ N# g  And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
% Q( e2 L' d" z+ u  The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
* s4 B! s' y$ `/ E, O- f( [  As I drew in my head, and was turning around,$ L/ d! V) z* l1 I# D- i8 c
  Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound.
% ^7 o& F. U# U  转眼之间我就听到屋顶
4 i% Z0 N- i0 i( V0 T  有小蹄子腾跃踢踏的响声,
% W9 i4 z* _2 I$ _& V  当我缩进头来转过身,+ v" j5 d3 g, U- ?% m. y: ^
  就看见圣尼古拉从烟囱上一跳而下,
9 l' u) ?$ T" ?! T# F8 t2 J  He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,8 Q3 j* v  }+ o6 B# j
  And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot;( g; O! G# A. I4 F! L" q/ T
  A bundle of Toys he had flung on his back,
4 o# q1 Y% X- B* X9 x) }3 ?  And he looked like a peddler just opening his pack.
# M  n! V& q6 f( D& z( q  他全身上下都穿皮裘,
7 e$ ~" w* E. J$ T7 G, r3 b) L2 D1 |$ o  他的衣服因盖满烟灰而失去光华,
0 }1 _& b* U' t# L2 A  他背上背着一包玩具,
$ D" ]8 W! n" o( B6 B2 S; c  他看起来就像是小贩正在开包,
; O" v' S0 |7 W$ {# Q  His eyes—how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!* l6 i! f; E0 d7 B% C0 H! F5 U
  His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!, u8 D9 B/ L2 }. b
  His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow
( [7 F2 ~* j" h  And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow;7 M$ [- u' E3 c$ O
  他的眼睛闪闪发光!他的酒涡充满欢乐!7 F; K4 X( U* _  q. h
  他的两颊红得像玫瑰,他的鼻子像是樱桃;% G, @) k- f* Z* U4 T6 s
  他那滑稽的小嘴就像画的一把弓。
