My Grandpapa lives in a wonderful house" g, c G+ a* b$ w* Z' u) G
With a great many windows and doors,

+ O; p. C g3 a7 g0 `! G And such beautiful, slippery floors.

And the bookroom, and parlour and all,' l6 N. @& h/ _1 s2 C& {
I like the green dining-room so much the best
2 @! b1 R! Y- {. g- K* E Because of its ceiling and wall.) l! j( S0 j- O
Right over your head is a funny round hole
% n$ f, F! u8 y; {7 |$ a ~, l With apples and pears falling through;' L1 W5 E' p& g" o+ h
There's a big bunch of grapes all purply and sweet,, [+ D3 ~! G6 |/ z! P8 t
And melons and pineapples too.' X. d0 {5 u3 }0 I C8 N* B N
They tumble and tumble, but never come down
3 K5 I2 k) z/ v; g% }3 z Though I've stood underneath a long while, u3 k2 a& q% @4 t' ~0 A
With my mouth open wide, for I always have hoped
5 h7 L2 j* ^& V+ G& n: u3 \) f; Z Just a cherry would drop from the pile.: q0 Q* b! f' k: {
No matter how early I run there to look
& a8 {0 S- B! C$ l' d' i" L It has always begun to fall through;
8 F. @/ a* \0 R( Q And one night when at bedtime I crept in to see,' ? c9 ^: o6 R
It was falling by candle-light too.
; P0 f" N: B6 t& n* p" h8 \. r) i I am sure they are magical fruits, and each one
! ^; L8 G: r0 H6 g Makes you hear things, or see things, or go, X' y8 @% ^8 v2 {/ a
Forever invisible; but it's no use,9 {7 x, [3 W5 t! K8 F- R& D& q! Z
And of course I shall just never know.+ C( i6 @1 ]0 U/ E: f
For the ladder's too heavy to lift, and the chairs
/ z0 ~ c* e/ G* f8 r3 r% k Are not nearly so tall as I need.
/ N0 C0 g$ d, K5 ]; g I've given up hope, and I feel I shall die" C4 p& K4 m8 T" p& S2 ?1 J5 S
Without having accomplished the deed.( ?+ e9 ]/ u# v9 i+ [9 n7 \* `% h
It's a little bit sad, when you seem very near
- V0 [2 r9 O& a, c To adventures and things of that sort,0 M" ]& N) m8 y$ f5 M
Which nearly begin, and then don't; and you know* R0 k" d3 B' e$ m6 h
It is only because you are short.
