　　However mean your life is, meet it and live it;
　　do not shun it and call it hard names.

　　find faults in paradise. Love your life, poor as it is.

　　glorious hours, even in a poor house. The setting sun

+ s7 T% j6 |/ U& r& [4 l　　the snow melts before its door as early in the spring.

　　and have as cheering thoughts, as in a palace.
' e: i7 f7 a& w　　The town’s poor seem to me often to live
　　the most independent lives of any. Maybe they are simply
　　great enough to receive without misgiving. Most think that
9 C. ]; P) O. H$ k! ], U3 \; }% {　　they are above being supported by the town;
　　but it often happens that they are not above
0 Y# }, l" Z% f7 c　　supporting themselves by dishonest means,
　　which should be more disreputable. Cultivate poverty
　　like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much
+ \# I# T7 g! i% ~5 n　　to get new things, whether clothes or friends.
$ z. |# w# ?  P) H: r1 F　　Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change.
8 d7 w' D7 G6 A& C　　Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts.
